May 2025

Comrades,

May is Military appreciation month and Armed Forces Day is Saturday 17 May. And of course, Monday 26 May is Memorial Day. It's a busy month with many happenings. Please visit our website and this page to keep up to date with the schedule of events as new events will occur. This page is full of links for all the details.

The grand marshal for this year's Stamford Memorial Day parade is our own Anthony Venezio. Please join us in the parade to celebrate Anthony's recognition. See all the details at our Memorial Day page to see details about the parade and Anthony's biography. The day prior to the parade we will plant U.S. Flags on veterans' graves at Saint John Cemetery. Join us along with the Sea Cadets to place close to 3000 flags to honor those who have preceded us. Thank you to our Senior Vice Command Tom Finn and his army of volunteers as they have placed flags throughout the rest of the cemeteries in Stamford. Comrades Donald Hartman and Alan Gerard will be honored veterans at this year's Stamford Citizen of the Year Award and Scholarship Presentation Dinner on June 4th. Later in June we have Hooks for Heroes, Saturday 21 June and a Black Tie Gala in honor or veterans, Friday 27 June at the Italian Center. Support all these events if you can.

Don’t forget we have our regular Post Meeting, Wednesday 21 June, 7:30 pm at the Belltown Fire Department. Our regular meetings are the third Wednesday of every month except December where we meet at 5:30 pm for our Holiday Dinner. We do not meet in July and August but hope to see everyone the annual BBQ Picnic in August together with other Stamford veterans service organizations.

Flag Planting

Saint John Cemetery

As we prepare for Memorial Day weekend, The City of Stamford along with Stamford Veterans Organizations, will coordinate U.S. flag planting at veteran graves throughout Stamford cemeteries. Two of the larger efforts are at Saint John and Woodland cemeteries with over 4000 graves. Other smaller cemeteries to include Queen of Peace, High Ridge and Long Ridge Cemeteries and Fairfield Memorial Park. We remember all veterans who have passed and who have protected our freedom and liberty. We honor them by planting U.S. flags next to their graves.
